individual and Relationship therapy

Our individual therapy sessions are conducted via telehealth or in our office located in Laurel, MD. Although we provide services to a wide range of individuals, we specialize in supporting folks within the BIPOC LGBTQIA2S+ communities who are seeking support managing depression, anxiety, trauma (both past and present), and neurodivergence.

Relationship therapy sessions are typically held in person. Relationships include folks who are partnered with one or more individuals and are aiming to work on communication skills, managing conflict effectively, and cultivating deeper, meaningful connections.

brainspotting intensives

Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic technique that taps into the brain-body connection to process and release stored trauma and emotional distress. It identifies and activates “brainspots,” which are eye positions associated with unprocessed trauma or emotional experiences. By focusing on these spots and accessing the deeper regions of the brain, Brainspotting allows for the processing and resolution of trauma on a neurological level.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, Brainspotting does not rely solely on verbal communication. Instead, it harnesses the body’s innate capacity to heal by accessing the brain’s natural processing mechanisms. This can lead to profound shifts in perception, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

Considering your unique needs and preferences, the pacing can be tailored to align with your comfort level and therapeutic goals, allowing for a personalized approach to healing.

While Brainspotting therapy focuses on processing specific traumatic experiences, it works well for grief and loss, anxiety, depression, financial frustrations, etc. Find more information on brainspotting here.

BrainspottIng intensives are scheduled for 2 hours at a rate of $350 per session. This also includes a prep session AND POST-session conducted within 4 days of the intensive.

The Blackest Sheep aims to support all community members, regardless of financial ability. Therefore, in addition to an anti-oppressive sliding scale, session fees are set to be inclusive and reasonable for both client and therapist. You will find the sliding scale below, along with instructions for determining where you fall within it. Please keep in mind that there are a limited number of slots available at each tier and that anything under ‘full cost’ is considered a reduced fee. If the tier you fall within is full, you may join a waitlist and be notified when a spot on that tier opens.

Determine your fees by answering the following questions with yes or no. Count the number of times you answered yes to determine where you fall on the scale. This is for your own knowledge. The clinician will not ask about your responses.

  1. Are you currently without health insurance?

  2. Are you under 26, currently a student, recently graduated (within the last year), or starting school within the next 3 months?

  3. Do you struggle to make the minimum payments on your bills/credit cards/loans?

  4. Does your income support any other person besides yourself, including pets/ESA/service animals?

  5. Are you within (not an ally of) the BIPOC, neurodivergent, disabled, fat, or LGBTQIA2S+ communities?

  6. Are you unemployed or underemployed (working part-time or contractually without benefits)?

No surprise act and good faith estimates

The No Surprises Act, implemented on January 1, 2022, provides important consumer protections against unexpected medical bills. Clients can rest assured that if they receive emergency care, visit an in-network facility, or inadvertently receive services from an out-of-network provider, they will only be responsible for their regular cost-sharing amount. This act eliminates the stress and financial burden often associated with surprise medical bills, offering clients peace of mind and greater transparency in healthcare billing practices. It is a significant step towards ensuring that individuals are not blindsided by unforeseen expenses when seeking necessary medical treatment.

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, healthcare providers and healthcare facilities are required to inform healthcare consumers not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under this law, health care providers are required to provide clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
